Belted Kingfisher. While canoeing in the Everglades National Refuge, I spotted this bright blue bird with a big, fluffy crest. I pulled my canoe over to a muddy bank, parked next to a half dozen sleeping alligators, and watched this little feather fisherman. It was worth tolerating the mosquitoes and creepy crawlies of the wetlands, just to see him effortlessly catch fish.
